Drchrono Develops 'Wearable Health Record' Google Glass App

An electronic health record company has developed an application that allows physicians using Google Glass to store patient data on a cloud-based storage and collaboration site, Reuters reports.

Details

California-based Drchrono is calling the application the first "wearable health record."

According to Reuters, Drchrono worked closely with Box, a cloud-based storage and collaboration service, and Google Glass to create the application.

Specifically, the app allows physicians -- with a patient's permission -- to use Google Glass to record a consultation or a surgery. The app then lets the physician store the video, as well as photographs and notes, in the patient's EHR or in Box. The data also can be shared with the patient.

So far, 300 of the 60,000 physicians using Drchrono's EHR system have opted to use the Google Glass app.

Currently, the application is available at no-cost to users, but Drchrono Co-Founder Daniel Kivatinos said the company may charge a fee in the future (Farr, Reuters, 6/12).
